Jennifer Lopez 'Live'

With top notes of scicilian lemon, orange and pineapple; heart notes of redcurrant, violet and peony and base notes of white musk, vanilla and sandalwood the impression is that this is a rather light, citrusy summer scent. However the base notes quickly seem to overpower the top notes and provide quite a heavy, for some - sickly scent but one that is perfect for a distinctive everyday scent. It could be considered a 'young' smelling perfume - perfect for anyone between the ages of 16-30, If sprayed ever so lightly over the body it will provide a more subtle, long lasting scent - rather than an overpowering, sickly one. The bottle is original and is aesthetically pleasing with a beautifully coloured exterior and doesn't tend to leak if slightly 'manhandled'. This perfume is, in conclusion, a great smell and a long lasting scent perfect for everday use.

Summary: light citrusy, summer scent which only needs sparse application to become noticeable

Advantages: has a very distinct scent, bottle is feminine and pretty

Disadvantages: Can become overpowering and sickly ever so easily, if over-applied

Kylie Minogue 'Showtime'

One of Kylie Minogue's fragrance range, Show Time is a fruity floral perfume that suits a cheery, smiley, happy-go-lucky person. It has notes of berries including blackcurrant and strawberry, roses, vanilla, white musk and liquorice. I'm sure there are others to pick out but alas this is the most my nose can do! To me this perfume smells almost fizzy, like Pink Lady apples - and makes for a great night time scent for going out or for uplifiting a gloomy mood on a bad day. This perfume makes a grey day seem shorter. It lasts very well on the skin, still smelling it on my skin at the end of the day on myself is the ultimate test of a perfumes' longevity so if i've applied it in the early morning and can still smell it late at night without having knocked people out by using more than two spritzes then it is good value for money. This scent won't suit everybody; its the sort of perfume that needs confidence to pull it off as it is quite distinctive. As Kylie herself says if someone is walking past her wearing it she can tell instantly. This would make a good signature scent for someone who likes something a little bit glam, a little bit quirky and who has the confidence to pull it off. Summary: A perfume that fizzes with fun.

Advantages: Nice quirky scent that isn't too expensive, pretty bottle too.
Disadvantages: Not for the faint hearted as its quite distinctive.

Britney Spears 'Midnight Fantasy'

Midnight Fantasy is the fourth and latest fragrance release from Britney Spears, and is meant as the sexy, late night (”a mysterious realm of temptation and intrigue”) follow-up to 2005’s Fantasy. It was created by perfumer Caroline Sabas, and the notes include black cherries, framboise, plum, orchid, freesia, iris, musk, amber and vanilla. The bottle is the same as Fantasy’s, done up in dark blue. If you were expecting a darker, warmer take on Fantasy’s medley of cupcake and sweet fruits, Midnight Fantasy may come as something of a surprise. The top notes, like those of Fantasy, are largely candied fruits, and as has been pointed out numerous times on MakeupAlley, it smells an awful lot like grape Kool-Aid. Thankfully, it calms to a more palatable (if still relatively sweet) berry-ish sort of mixture fairly quickly. The heart notes add an entirely anonymous blur of sheer florals, and the base is velvety but surprisingly pale and clean. Midnight Fantasy is an Eau de Parfum; the 50 ml bottle is £15 and the 100 ml bottle is £35. If you have your own web page and would like to display your allegiance, there is (I am not making this up) a Britney Spears Midnight Fantasy Countdown to Valentine’s Day widget available for download via the Britney Spears Beauty website.

Summary: smells like it came straight out of the pick-n-mix - at night!

Advantages: a typically girly, pretty scent which is deliciously sweet.

Disadvantages: you either love it or hate it - to some it is ridiculously sickly sweet
